What is Baseball Cap?
Made up of a soft cap and stiff visor, it is typically adjustable at the back thanks to a plastic, Velcro or elastic band. The baseball style of cap derived from earlier brimmed hats popular in the late 19th century, including deerstalkers popularised by the illustrations of Sherlock Holmes, jockey caps, military “pillbox” caps, fedoras and boaters. The earliest baseballs caps were made of wool with a leather bill and were worn exclusively by baseball players in the mid- to late-19th century.
Types of baseball hats by material
Brushed cotton: This involves brushing cotton repeatedly, imparting a soft and fuzzy texture to the fabric.
Cotton twill: A common material for a baseball cap, cotton twill offers a slight sheen and a durable texture. It’s lighter compared to brushed cotton.
Corduroy: Known for its raised parallel ridges, corduroy offers a unique tactile quality, bringing a sophisticated and vintage charm to baseball caps. Favored for casual and semi-formal settings, corduroy caps make a statement with their distinctive texture and refined aesthetic.
Denim: Well suited for a laid-back style, denim finds its place among baseball caps, merging comfort with a timeless and rugged appeal. The durable nature of denim ensures longevity, and its ability to fade over time adds character.
Brushed canvas: Increasingly popular, brushed canvas strikes a balance between durability and a soft texture. The brushed finish adds a touch of sophistication, ensuring that the hats feel great and look stylish.
Wool blend: A classic moisture-wicking material is combined with modern blends to enhance durability, making wool blend baseball caps ideal for various weather conditions.
Color dyed/fabric dyed: The manufacturing process of fabric-dyed materials results in textiles with a soft, faded, lived-in appearance and feel. Whether it's the gentle fading of colors or the vintage look achieved through fabric dyeing, these caps exude a laid-back charm that complements any casual outfit.
Polyester mesh: Often used in the back panels of trucker hats, polyester mesh makes the hat breathable.

A baseball cap is a rounded, soft cap with curved peak and it is part of the traditional baseball uniform with the main function to protect eyes of the player from the sun during the baseball game. The baseball cap has the logo of a sports team in the front, and plastic or elastic adjuster on the back, so it fits wearer's head size. In the front of the cap sometimes there's logo of the company instead of sport's team if it's used for commercial purpose. If the USA has a national hat, it would be the baseball cap - everyone wears it: truck drivers, mail carriers, woman, and children.
First baseball hats were made of straw. It may be that what we today know as baseball cap was just a variation of yachting cap, nevertheless, first version closest to nowadays was in 1860, when the Brooklyn Excelsiors wore it (later called the "Brooklyn style" cap). It quickly became popular. In the 19th century, the cap was not so structured, and the peak on the cap was much shorter (which was changed later due to the protection of player's eyes of the sun).
When manufacturers in 1940 put latex rubber like the stiffening material inside the cap (instead of buckram), they made what we today know as a baseball cap. Producers of baseball cap say that from then until now, the biggest change in design is only in the color of fabric used for the hat - structure is more-less same. From the Detroit Tigers, who first put their logo on the front of the cap, it has become an essential thing.
Baseball players usually wear caps made of wool, but they can be made of different materials, like polyester or brushed cotton. Caps without an adjuster are usually sewn in six sections, and have a button on top covered by matching the fabric. Because of ventilation, the cap can have fabric eyelets, or even some sections of the hat can be made of net materials. Interesting, but just for the logo in front of the cap must be made thousands of stitches - the most complicated was the classic Florida Marlins logo consisting of 10,966 stitches total.
How Baseball Caps Are Made
Cutting The Material
The fabric is cut into predetermined patterns.
Six to eight fabric triangles, known as panels, are prepared for each cap.
Additional materials are cut for the visor, peak, and back extenders.
Sourcing Additional Parts
Plastic extenders or fasteners are secured from third-party suppliers.
Preparing The Panels
A mesh inner lining is attached to the hat panels for heat dissipation and moisture wicking.
Eyelets are inserted in panels for added ventilation.
The panels are sewn together.
The seams are bound with tape to create the finished look.
Assembling The Visor
An inner stiffener is added to the visor for shape retention.
The visor is covered with the same material as the cap.
The visor is attached to the assembled cap.
Adding Fasteners And Sweatbands
The adjustable fastener is attached at the back.
The sweatband is sewn onto the interior of the cap.
A hat label is added with brand and care information.
Setting And Finishing
The cap is steamed to set the shape.
There can be additional finishing steps depending on the baseball cap.
The general rule for wearing a baseball cap is to find one with a good fit. This means it should feel snug on your head to avoid falling off, but never so tight that it gives you a headache or leaves red marks and indentations on your forehead.
Unless the visor is obstructing your view or preventing you from otherwise safely doing a task, don't wear a baseball cap backwards. It's just not a good look. Same goes for wearing it sideways. That only works for toddlers. And if you're reading this, you are not a toddler.
Remember that less is more. You can get a lot more mileage out of a plain black cap or clean white baseball cap than some trendy graffiti-laden lid that will only take you so far and lose its appeal after wearing it for one season.
Know your material. If you sweat a lot or plan on being in the sun, choose a baseball cap in a breathable fabric such as cotton. Conversely, if you're wearing a cap in the cold, opt for warmer materials such as wool or suede. Oh, and if you plan to sport a baseball cap with a leather jacket, don't double up with a leather cap. That's just overkill.
Keep it clean. This is common sense, but it's worth mentioning. A grimy hat is never cute. Here's how to clean a baseball hat.

Material of Baseball Cap
Cotton – Cotton is an everyday fabric for everyday use. Cotton shows up everywhere, and in most hats. You can think of cotton as the tomato of fabrics. Why tomato? Because tomatoes grow everywhere and are great in most salads and sandwiches.
Wool – Made from the hair of sheep, wool is soft and flexible. It is also resistant to fire, who knew? Wool can also be insulating and therefore comes in handy for hats. Wool is making a comeback with 5-panels and snapbacks, and it is also commonly seen in fashion caps.
Acrylic – There are many bonuses to an acrylic hat: resistance to sun and moths (yes, moths), plus they’re cheap and colorfast. You will find acrylic in just about every hat style for those reasons.
Felt – Usually derived from wool, felt is used to make yurts, bowler hats and fedoras - evo sells a few of these (mainly yurts, just kidding). Don’t be surprised to see felt show up in a 5-panel, as this material is making a comeback.
Nylon – Nylon is commonly used to make the mesh backs of trucker hats. Fun fact of the day: Nylon was invented in 1935 and is relatively new to the hat game. It’s made with synthetic polymers… say that 10 times fast.
Polyester – Standard Polyesthylene Teraphthalate, also known as polyester, shows up all over hats in brims, mesh and linings.
Straw – Yup, evo has straw hats. Usually found in fedora or sun hats, straw is perhaps the oldest hat material in the world!
Metal – The most shredtacular of hat materials, metal hats are commonly smithed by a large and stern man, usually missing at least one finger.

Step 1: Spot clean
Spot clean extra-dirty areas by using more detergent diluted in water and scrubbing them with a toothbrush or other small brush.
Step 2: Soak
Soak the hat for a few hours and check the hat occasionally to see if any spots need more cleaning.
Step 3: Rinse
Rinse the hat thoroughly with cool or warm water and gently pat dry with a towel.
Step 4: Reshape and drip dry
Reshape the hat by placing the cap (the part that sits directly on your head) on top of an upside down coffee can, small bowl or other container that mimics the shape of your head. Leave the hat out to dry.
Reasons To Wear a Baseball Cap

Caps shape your face
Some say "I don't look good in caps". That's completely wrong. Instead, it's all about the size and style of the cap. Once you find your perfect fitting, your new ball cap will highlight certain parts of your face that not even make-up can.
Caps make you look confident
Caps help you draw attention and make you stand out from the crowd. Wearing a cap will complete your look - it's a simple yet great accessory to make you look confident. Whether you prefer to wear it as a sporty accessory or a fashion statement, the cap will make you hold your head up high.
